Java fern is an easy to grow plant that makes a beautiful addition to an aquarium.  It can grow to around 8 inches tall and will do well if planted in medium light. They propagate through adventitious plants on roots and leaves. They are great plants if planted individually in small aquariums or as groups in larger tanks. You will need to add additional potassium on a regular basis to keep them in peak condition.

Because Java Ferns will root on almost any rough surface you will find them very easy to grow on driftwood.  Simply attach them with a loose elastic band to the driftwood and then after a couple of weeks when they have taken root and anchored themselves firmly you can cut the elastic band and be left with a very natural looking centre piece for your freshwater aquarium.

The young Java Ferns will also anchor themselves to substrate, ornaments and filter sponges if left to their own devices.
