Dwarf Red Rasboro by

The Dwarf Red Rasbora
originates from Thailand and is a favourite
amongst aquarists with its distinctive black
triangle that starts at the dorsal fin and
continues to the caudal fin. It is
sometimes confused with the Lamb Chop Rasbora
which has similar markings. They are a
hardy fish that is easy to look after. A
shoal of these fish will brighten up any
aquarium.
Red Rasbora prefer a well
planted tank with open space at the top of the
tank where they can swim around and fairly
dense vegetation lower down where they can
hide. They should always be kept in
shoals as individual fish or small numbers of
them will become distressed.
When adding Red
Rasbora to the tank always ensure that the
nitrogen cycle is well established as they do
not cope with peaks in ammonia or
nitrites.

Red Rasbora will accept
smaller fish food including flakes, frozen, freeze dried and
live foods.
The Red Rasbora
males have a slender body compared to the plumper females.
Breeding takes place in the vegetation and good spawning plants
are essential for breeding. They spawn during the day and
should be removed from the aquarium when the finished laying
their eggs. Dwarf Red Rasbora are not that prone to eat their
own eggs but will do so if left for a long time period in the
breeding aquarium. Obviously if eggs or fry are left in
an open aquarium then they will be eaten by other
fish.
